Born in 1972 in Beijing, Liu Wei graduated from the Oil Painting Department of China Academy of Art in 1996. As a young conceptual artist of great importance and high market interest in contemporary China, he is most famous for large-scale installations with eye-catching visual images, and he also widely involved in photography, image, painting, sculpture and other fields. His works record the introspection of emotional excess and degeneration under cultural anxiety and he pays special attention to the discussion of interaction between artistic visual style and the observers' participation, and intends to urge observers to re-examine the social environment through the alternation impact upon their physiology and psychology.
